What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is about helping people live healthier, fuller lives. Chiropractors focus on the nervous system and painlessly, manually adjust the vertebral column to affect the nervous system.

What does D.C. stand for and what do Chiropractors do?

Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. Here is a photo of our therapy bay where Dr. Heidingsfelder diagnoses faulty muscle patterns and our "rolling" table.

What can chiropractic do for me?

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.”   The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Why should I see Dr. Heidingsfelder?

Dr. Heidingsfelder began learning adjusting techniques in the first semester of his education at Logan Chiropractic. His curriculum was ten semesters, sometimes ten semester hours of adjusting technique alone. The major technique he uses is called Diversified. This is probably what you imagine a chiropractor doing, because it is the most common technique. It consists of light thrusts to the back and neck in order to realign the vertebra. Logan Basic technique was also a core technique he learned, and it is very gentle, and is great for children. Thompson technique utilizes the adjusting table that drops about half an inch to facilitate the doctor's adjustment thrust. Activator technique uses an instrument like the one in the picture to contact the vertebra and give it a specified amount of thrust. He also uses Cox- Flexion/Distraction technique, which utilizes a specific table movement to treat low back pain, especially from disc problems. We also utilize therapies like traction, intersegmental traction (roller table), interferrential (electric muscle stimulation) and ultrasound at the clinic.

In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment. When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.
